If you follow the local news, you know that one of the fastest growing areas in Wichita is the Delano District. Located right on the roundabout in Delano sits The Monarch. An old service station which now houses a hip joint with an awesome patio, The Monarch is the brainchild of local restaurateur Jennifer Rey. If you aren’t following their Instagram, follow them immediately. The pictures posted are drool worthy. The best part of The Monarch is that because the front is garage doors, the entire restaurant opens up to a cool patio and front row seat to the action on the roundabout. While enjoying the vibe, order up the aptly named Roundabout sandwich. A baguette layered with thinly sliced ham, Brie, spicy Dijon mustard and offset by perfectly crisp tart green apple, this sandwich is a menu must try. The Royal is a decadent combination of sirloin, cheddar and horseradish pressed into a French roll. Even the most devout carnivore needs a change of pace and that change comes in the form of the Veggie sandwich.
Ciabatta bread slathered with hummus and topped with sautéed mushrooms, tomatoes, cukes and then sprinkled with crunchy pea shoots, this sandwich is a winner. The Monarch’s sandwich menu is extensive enough that you could plan a lunch stop for 14 consecutive weeks and never repeat an option. All meat is smoked in-house daily, just one of the many details which makes The Monarch a gem in the heart of Delano.
